sitemap.xml Generator

Turn a list of URLs into a valid sitemap.xml, with Arabic paths encoded and the protocol limits checked.

How to use

What it checks and how it works

The file follows the Sitemaps protocol at sitemaps.org and Google's guide to building a sitemap: UTF-8, entity-escaped values, absolute URLs, a lastmod in W3C Datetime format, at most 50,000 URLs and 50 MB (52,428,800 bytes) uncompressed per file. Arabic and other non-ASCII path characters are percent-encoded as UTF-8, the form Google recommends in links. Google ignores the priority and changefreq values and uses lastmod only when it is consistently and verifiably accurate. For that reason the tool leaves priority and changefreq out unless you choose them, and it does not invent dates: lastmod appears only when you type it or ask for today's date.

Should I put a lastmod date on every URL?

Only if the date is true. Google says it uses lastmod when it is consistently and verifiably accurate. A date that changes without the page changing can teach Google to ignore the field, so use real modification dates or leave it out.

Do priority and changefreq help?

Google says it ignores both values. The tool lets you add them for other consumers of your sitemap, but they are off by default.

What if I have more than 50,000 URLs?

A sitemap file can hold at most 50,000 URLs and 50 MB uncompressed. Split the list into several files and list them in a sitemap index, which the Sitemap Index Generator builds.
