Sitemap Validator

Paste a sitemap.xml or a sitemap index and see every protocol problem, with the line of the URL it affects.

How to use

What it checks and how it works

The validator parses your XML in the browser with fast-xml-parser and checks it against the Sitemaps protocol (sitemaps.org) and Google's sitemap guide: a urlset or sitemapindex root, the sitemap namespace, one absolute loc per entry under 2,048 characters, lastmod in W3C Datetime format, priority between 0.0 and 1.0, changefreq from the allowed list, no duplicates, and at most 50,000 entries and 50 MB uncompressed. It checks structure, not reachability: it does not request your URLs, so it cannot tell whether a page returns 200, is blocked by robots.txt or is canonical to another URL. Check those with a crawler or Search Console.

Why is my sitemap valid XML but still flagged?

XML validity and sitemap validity are different. A file can be well-formed XML and still miss the namespace, use relative URLs or give a lastmod in the wrong format. The validator checks the protocol rules on top of the XML.

Does it check that my URLs return 200?

No. The tool runs in your browser and does not request your pages. It checks the file's structure. Use Search Console or a crawler to check what each URL returns.

My sitemap is a gzip file. Can I paste it?

Decompress it first and paste the XML. The size limit applies to the uncompressed file, so the tool measures the pasted text.
