How to use

What it checks and how it works

Google documents no rich result for a Person type on its own. Its vehicle for people is ProfilePage, described on Google Search Central's profile page, opened on 29 Oct 2026, for sites where creators give first-hand perspectives. The tool writes a ProfilePage whose mainEntity is the Person. Google requires mainEntity and a name (or alternateName) for the person, and recommends dateCreated and dateModified on the page, and properties such as alternateName, description, image and sameAs on the person. Google says to use real names in name and social handles in alternateName. The dates should be ISO 8601 and dateModified should reflect real changes to the profile. Person properties come from schema.org. The tool cannot prove the identity of the person, and it should be used only for people who agree to be listed.

Does Google show a rich result for Person markup?

Google documents none for Person alone. Its page for ProfilePage helps it understand creators on a site, including in features such as discussions and forums.

What goes in name and what in alternateName?

Google recommends the real name in name and a social media handle in alternateName. If only a handle exists, it can go in name.

What counts as a modification date?

Google says dateModified ideally covers human-edited changes to the profile, not extra links added elsewhere that point to it.
