HTML to Markdown Converter

Turn pasted HTML into tidy Markdown for docs, notes and content migrations.

How to use

What it checks and how it works

The HTML is converted with Turndown, which walks the page's elements and writes the matching CommonMark syntax. Tables, which Turndown leaves out on its own, are written as GitHub Flavored Markdown pipe tables, and strikethrough is kept. Scripts, styles and templates are removed before conversion. Markdown cannot express everything in HTML: classes, inline styles, merged table cells and nested tables are lost, and the top table row is treated as the header. Check the result before you publish it.

What gets lost in the conversion?

Classes, inline styles, scripts, merged cells and anything else Markdown has no syntax for. Text, headings, lists, links, images, code and simple tables are kept.

Can I paste a whole page?

Yes, but menus, footers and ads will be converted too. Paste only the article or section you want to keep.

Does it keep Arabic text?

Yes. Text is copied as Unicode, and characters Markdown treats as special, such as * and _, are escaped so they do not change the meaning.
